I asked the officer why she was moving through the crowd, flanked by a clearly nervous escort, video taping peaceful anti-war demonstrators. She swiveled her camera directly at my face and said her video was for my security.

"We're looking for terrorists," she said.

"Thank you," I replied. "I feel so safe. One nation, under surveillance."

She was not amused.
